What to expect

The Royal City of Loches, in Indre-et-Loire, includes two main buildings: its famous keep and the royal residence. Although the first stone was laid there in the eleventh century, the work did not end until around the year 1400. Built for the Count of Anjou, the fortress became a royal residence, dungeon, court and prison over the centuries. during the revolutionary era then a prison. The keep, almost 40 meters high, is certainly the most impressive building in the royal city and is a unique testimony to the defensive architecture of the Romanesque period. A small medieval-inspired garden brings a touch of peace and freshness to this military ensemble and constitutes the perfect place to rest after the visit.
