What to expect
At the dawn of the 15th century, Louis d'Orléans launched the construction of a vast and sumptuous castle. The château of Pierrefonds was born. Embellished and redecorated in the 19th century under the direction of Viollet-le-Duc, the architect of Napoleon III, the building is today one of the jewels of European architecture, but also one of the most appreciated tourist sites in the Compiègne region ! Surrounded by double ramparts and protected by 4 high defence towers, the castle of Pierrefonds symbolises French architectural know-how better than any other monument.
During your visit, you will have all the time to contemplate the many architectural extravagances specific to the building. In Pierrefonds, medieval, Renaissance and Art Nouveau influences meet in a marriage of rare beauty. Popularized by the film " Joan of Arc " by Luc Besson, the castle is an ideal place for strolling and admiration.
