What to expect
The castle of Baux-de-Provence is one of the emblematic sites of the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Place of residence of the lords of Baux from the eleventh century, it takes on the appearance of a vast fortified castle half-dug into the mountain. These troglodyte caves would have even been inhabited since the Neolithic period. Today, the imposing fortress is in ruins but is still fascinating to visit. Thus, once there, you can notably observe reconstructions of medieval siege engines such as catapults and trebuchets up close. They even carry out shooting demonstrations every day using real projectiles. But the real spectacle is certainly the surrounding landscapes. The Château des Baux allows you to enjoy a sumptuous panorama of the Provençal countryside all the way to the Mediterranean.
