What to expect
Symbol of the genius of Italian painting, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, known as Caravaggio (1571-1610) massively influenced the pictorial currents of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. From the autumn of 2018, the Jacquemart-André museum invites you to discover the exceptional richness of the work of the Italian master. For the occasion, a dozen paintings rarely seen in France will be gathered boulevard Haussmann, in the setting of one of the most sumptuous museums in Paris. Many works of his most illustrious contemporaries will be exhibited in counterpoint to his work. They will reveal the deeply revolutionary character of Caravaggio's art.
Difficult to evoke Caravaggio without highlighting the formidable realism of his paintings, the indescribable beauty of its chiaroscuro, the spatial organization so particular of his paintings. The exhibition will show the evolution of the artist's work, from his early Roman years to his exile, but also the effervescence characteristic of the Italian cultural milieu of the time. Not to be missed !
